Chiara applies AI and virtual reality in schools

Teacher training with AI and virtual reality
According to a survey by Impact Research, 51% of U.S. teachers already use artificial intelligence tools such as ChatGPT to plan their classes, find creative activities or develop a knowledge base with which to start their lessons.
However, this use of AI in education in Spain is still scarce.
For this reason, GRESOL International American School has carried out an innovative training program specialized in public speaking for its teachers in which artificial intelligence and virtual reality are used.
The training aims to improve the communication skills of teachers and develop as educators, so that all this will have a positive impact on the educational experience of their students.
Teachers train AI to communicate better in the classroom
In an interview with EFE Xavier Soler, director of secondary and high school and promoter of the initiative at GRESOL International American School, located in Terrasa (Barcelona), explains that they have begun to use the new methodology this year to prepare classes and also improve the students’ public speaking skills.

Chiara, the “virtual” teacher
This is an application that is now being used by senior managers and executives of the IBEX-35, but which will be used in this center of the Santa Ana Residential Estate from next year onwards.
Through virtual reality glasses, students of Compulsory Secondary Education (ESO) will be able to improve their public speaking skills.
The system will be able to detect the needs of each student, through artificial intelligence methods that analyze the volume of the voice, speed, intonation and even the look. This will make it possible to practice and monitor progress, which will be monitored by a virtual trainer. The training program will be customized for each user and will include ‘video tutorials’ with guidelines to improve communication. The duration of the rehearsals will vary between 5 and 8 minutes. After each presentation, the application will offer tips for improvement.
”The platform manages to make the learner feel what he/she will really experience

Presentation of projects
As it is an application for mobile viewers, students can train anywhere and at any time, as well as compare their performance and progress with those of other people.
In addition to the Chiara application, teachers at Miralmonte School will launch next year a new educational system based on student learning through games. It is called 'Top Thinkers' and consists of promoting skills such as attention, concentration, memory, problem solving or creativity in children by participating in pedagogical exercises.
”Control your emotions, improve your vocalization and intonation, adapt the rhythm and speed of your voice and learn to look at the audience.

AI empowers
There is a lot of talk about ChatGPT, the Artificial Intelligence tool that can write everything you ask it to write.
The ESO students of the Monterrey school in Vigo have started the year testing an application that uses Artificial Intelligence and Virtual Reality to transform their nerves when speaking in public and turn them into energy that empowers them.
“With the glasses, you see a class where there are some people chewing gum or who don't seem to care what you say. It puts you in a situation and you go around talking about whatever you want.”
Candela Mato3rd ESO student
“The test with the glasses was very interesting. I think a person who is more introverted or who, for example, is new to a school, may find it much easier to talk if they know that no one real is going to judge them.” “In the end, it's different and you get inside the role.”
Andrea MatoFocus Group Participant, 3rd ESO
“At the school, we are aware of the importance of oral expression and in fact we want to introduce the subject of public speaking to promote it and solve certain deficiencies. That is why when we were chosen for this project we thought it was a great opportunity.”

Learning to speak in public from the classroom
A pair of glasses and an application (app) are enough to take this course, which aims to put an end to glossophobia or, in other words, to lose the fear of speaking in public; a pending subject for many people.
To test the product, Del Portillo says that he first approached Ibex 35 companies. “They are used to innovation. If they validated it, it was on the right track”. Today 10 of them have the application, from Acciona or Endesa to BBVA. Large companies have joined the list of 25, including 3M, Mahou, Cepsa and Metro de Madrid. But Chiara not only has multinationals in its client portfolio, but also individuals. “The area already accounts for 10% of our turnover”.
The course has the advantage that it can be taken anywhere and at any time.
The application is also being developed in British English and will be available in American English in the coming year. Chiara Junior will also be launched

”There was a wide variety of courses, but none in which the student faced an audience of real people.
”The program gives you a series of tips (there are more than 2,000 possible) on what to keep and what to change.
”First there are people smiling and reassuring, but then there are people who are uncomfortable, such as someone who makes noises with a pen, someone who only looks at his cell phone or even someone with an angry face.
”The scenarios are recorded at the Miralmonte school in Cartagena (Murcia).
